Everything a new family needs to know — in the order you need to know it.

You're Their First Teacher. We'll Help You Be Their Best.

Classical Conversations equips parents to give their children a Christ-centred, classical education at home — with a weekly community for support, accountability and friendship. Whether you're brand new to homeschooling or looking for a better way, here's how to begin.

Three simple steps

Read. Watch. Connect.

1

Read — the model in 5 minutes

Classical education follows how children naturally learn: first the grammar (facts and vocabulary), then the dialectic (understanding and reasoning), then rhetoric (expressing and persuading). We do all of it through a biblical worldview.

Watch — a community day

See what a Foundations morning looks like: memory work, science, fine arts and parents learning alongside their children. Four minutes, and you'll know whether this is your people.

Connect — find a community

Communities meet across South Africa. Tell us where you are and the ages of your children, and a local Director will be in touch to invite you to visit a community day.

New-family questions

Frequently Asked by Families Just Starting

Do I need to be a teacher?

No. Classical Conversations exists to equip parents. Tutors model each lesson on community day; you continue at home with the guide and resources. Most of our parents had never taught before they started.

Is it legal to homeschool in South Africa?

Yes. Home education is recognised under the South African Schools Act; parents register with their provincial education department. Our Directors can point you to the current requirements for your province.

How much time does it take each week?

One community day (about 9:00–15:00 for Foundations/Essentials families) plus home learning on the other days. Foundations at home is typically 1–3 hours a day depending on age; Challenge students work more independently.

What does it cost?

Costs vary by programme and community (tuition, a registration fee, and the books). Your Director will give you the exact figures for their community; the books are available from our online shop.

Can we visit before we commit?

Please do. Most communities welcome visiting families on a community day — that's the best way to see whether it fits. Use the "Find a community" form and ask to visit.

Do universities accept a Classical Conversations education?

Challenge graduates in South Africa typically write recognised school-leaving exams (e.g. Cambridge or GED) alongside the Challenge programme, and go on to South African and international universities. Ask us about the pathways families use.
